Country Music Explosion: Thanks for doing this interview, Let's first start off by giving us a little background of your life,then we can proceed to the rest of the interview

Kasey lansdale:*My childhood was great. Two great parents who loved and encouraged my creative drives. I was a good student, but always knew the arts were my passion.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion: When did you start writing about music—and what or who were your early passions and influences?

Kasey lansdale:*I’ve been writing fiction and music since I can remember. I suppose I could consider it professional at age 8, I had a fiction piece published by Random House.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:What are your main impulses to write music?

Kasey lansdale:*I suppose when I feel like I have a story to tell.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:What do you personally consider to be the incisive moments and pieces in your songwriting and/or career?

Kasey lansdale:*I think finishing the first album and hearing songs from it get placed in major motion pictures. I finally felt like I had something tangible to show for my years of hard work.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:How would you describe and rate the music scene of the city/state you are currently living in and how important is it in terms of what you're actually writing about?

Kasey lansdale:*Up until recently I was in East Texas, and that area shaped who I am not just as a writer but as a person. It’s the home of country music, and home of the blues. It's right on the cusp of Louisiana where so many great musicians came through. Now I live in LA and the music scene is crucial. Everyone is here because they are talented artists. It’s a great scene to find like-minded folks.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:When it comes to song writing, what are your criteria for quality? What are currently your main challenges and ambitions as a writer?

Kasey lansdale:*For me as a writer, I just want to tell the story that feels right. Unfortunately, that’s not always enough to make something commercial or “hit quality.” If we knew the formula, we would all do it. I suppose just trusting your own gut is the biggest challenge.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:What do you usually start with when working on a new Music?

Kasey lansdale:*That varies from song to song.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:Tell us a bit about the selection process for deciding on what to write about, please. What sources will you draw from for research purposes and how much time goes into research, information gathering and fact-checking in general?

Kasey lansdale:*My sources are my feelings, my friends, my experiences. I tell my story, or the story of others that I hear about to the best of my ability.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:How do you see the role of a song writer in the creative process? Should it amplify public taste, distinguish the good from the bad, inform, promote artists, or, “illuminate, educate and entertain” fans? Do you feel that, as part of your work, music needs to be explained or should it retain its “inexplicable nature”?

Kasey lansdale:*If I have to explain to someone what to feel then I didn’t do my job. That said, sometimes you write something and it just doesn’t register with some people. You can’t win them all. Artists need to spend less time convincing people that they are doing great art and trying to promote themselves and more time making and improving their craft.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:In which way does writing and reading about music change the way it is perceived by the public?

Kasey lansdale:*To be honest I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about it. I’m not here to tell people how they should perceive things.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:Whom do you feel your obligation is to other artists and the fans,not writing for a publication ? In how much do you feel is songwriting restricted by external factors?

Kasey lansdale:*My obligation is to me. To do the best I can with the tools I’ve got at the time. Know better, do better. Until then, I’m trying to make the music I want to hear and can be proud of. Sometimes that works out. Others not.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:song writing has changed considerably over the past century. What, do you feel, could – or should - be new forms and formats for song writing?

Kasey lansdale:Again, I think it comes down to the story. Is it relatable? Is it something that transcends gender and age? We all know love and loss and joy and sadness. It’s not rocket science, but it is a craft.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:Music-sharing sites and blogs as well as a flood of releases in general are presenting both listeners and artists with challenging questions. What's your view on the value of music today?

Kasey lansdale:*I don’t believe music and art is valued in the States as it should be. Everyone and everything is considered disposable in today’s current culture. People are always waiting for what’s next rather than living in the moment and enjoying what’s right now. That concept is where the whole idea of my new project came from.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:When and why did you start playing Music and/or songwriting?

Kasey lansdale:*I was born to do it.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:Which instruments do you play?

Kasey lansdale:*Guitar and I play piano to write.

====================================================
Country Music Explosion:Do you attend sessions? What makes a good session?

Kasey lansdale:*Both songwriting and studio. Being prepared makes all the difference. Be a professional, take the thirty minutes to get organized.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:How often and for how long do you practice?

Kasey lansdale:*Never as much as I should.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:What do you practice - exercises, new tunes, hard tunes, etc.?

Kasey lansdale:*Varies.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:How do you balance your music with other obligations - friends,family, job?

Kasey lansdale:*You have to have experiences to have good music, but you can’t be always be chasing your muse either. It’s like anything in life, moderation is key.
