Country Music Explosion:Did you live in a small town or big city?

Mersi Stone:Kelsi and I were born in Provo,Utah and lived in a small town up in the mountains when we were kids. However,in our pre-teen years we moved to a small suburb outside of Austin,Texas.Texas is now home for us.You can take the girl our of Texas,but you can’t take the Texas out of the girl.

Mersi Stone:Yes,church has always been a part of our lives and still is today.Church is where our music abilities were actually developed,by singing in choirs and singing for our congregation.

Mersi Stone:Kori Jean is the oldest.Kelsi and her twin brother Matt are the middle,and Ryli is the younger sister.

Mersi Stone:Kori Jean pursued music right after high school,and I(Kelsi) went to college for year before I moved to Nashville and was actually pursuing a nursing degree.

Mersi Stone:I (Kori)kept really busy with dance,voice,piano,and guitar lessons.As well as was in several choirs.Kelsi was really into horse back riding and on most nights you could find her at the barn.She was also very dedicated to her piano and voice lessons.

Mersi Stone:Kori loves Fashion.She still does.Kori created her own Prom Dress business when she was 16.I (Kelsi) really enjoyed sports like basketball and volleyball.I(Kelsi) also really enjoyed horseback riding.

Country Music Explosion:When it comes to friends at school,Do you still stay in contact with them?what kind of things did you all like to do together?

Mersi Stone:Kori Jean and I (Kelsi) have stayed in touch with a few friends from school,but not a lot.Kori met a girl named Erica when she was 16 and she is basically like a sister to us now.We just celebrated our 11 year friend-adversary with her.Whenever we get together we love to grab a bite to eat and chat and lay by the pool.We also are big fans of girls trips to the beach.

Mersi Stone:Kori Jean likes to plan.She's a planner.If anyone needed help planning a wedding,she’s you’re girl.
I (Kelsi) really enjoy reading and watching movies.

Mersi Stone:Our biggest goal in life is to touch people with our music. Music has a way of speaking to you in a way words alone just can’t do.

Mersi Stone:If we weren’t singing,Kori Jean would be a piano/Vocal teacher,and I (Kelsi)would be in college pursuing a Nursing Degree.

Mersi Stone:Kori Jean has the hidden talent of being like a Zombie from The Walking Dead.If she went to Zombie University,she would pass and totally be on the show.I (Kelsi) have a talent for doing peoples makeup and hair. I’m constantly watching makeup tutorials on Youtube.

Mersi Stone:We were both born in Utah and moved to Texas when Kelsi was 8 years old and Kori was 11.

Mersi Stone:I (Kelsi) had the opportunity to go to college for a year.I was beginning to pursue Nursing.I really enjoyed my time up there and had some really great friends.Everyone around me supported me in the best way they could.

Mersi Stone:Genealogy is very important to us.It’s always fun learning about where we came from.

Mersi Stone:We actually do not,but now we really want to know and will have to do research on this.

Mersi Stone:A lot of our family is from Germany and Norway.

Mersi Stone:A typical weekend was revolved around spending time with family.Whether that was skiing,camping,swimming,or just being together.

Mersi Stone:Yes.Our family was very involved in our church and in the community.We were apart of a youth group that toured over the Country singing gospel music.

Mersi Stone:Our parents have been really supportive of anything that we pursue.They believe in us and are our biggest fans.

Mersi Stone:We honestly listen to everything.We really like to be well rounded when it comes to the type of music we listen to.Right now, Kelsi is really digging on Ariana Grande,One Republic,and Trent Harmon.Kori Jean really likes Joey Hyde,James Bay, and Gavin Degraw.

Mersi Stone:We listen to so many genres,so we don’t really have a genre we can’t stand except maybe some screamo music.

Mersi Stone:I (kori) knew when I was 16 years old that I wanted to sing country music.Kelsi knew that she wanted to sing with me when she was 16.

Country Music Explosion:Tell us a bit about the selection process you go through when doing a gig?or in the studio?How do you decide which song to perform or record first?

Mersi Stone:When we get in the studio and decide what song to cut,we normally will do a guitar/vocal of the song,and then sit on the song for a few days.Then we’ll come together with our producer and decide on the songs.Then we’ll get the studio musicians scheduled and then we’ll go in and cut the song.Once that is done,our producer takes the song and mixes and add little nuances to the song.

Mersi Stone:The value of music is so important especially as our world becomes more of a singles world rather than an album world. Streaming has also become very popular as well which has changed the value of music.

Mersi Stone:Everyone in our family,except our mom, is musical.

Mersi Stone:We both really admire the Eagles,Carrie Underwood,and Eric Church.All of these artists have their own unique musicianship.They all have something we admire to have.

Mersi Stone:We’ve learned from Carrie Underwood,Garth Brooks,and many more.

Mersi Stone:We really enjoyed touring the country with a youth methodist Choir group.It was a cool experience to be able to do something like that at such a young age.We also remember just gathering in the living room and signing to our family, that is one of our fondest memories as well.

Mersi Stone:Kori Jean got 2nd place in Austin Idol and I (Kelsi) tried out for American Idol and had the opportunity to sing for the celebrity judges on the Ryman Stage

Mersi Stone:Yes,we perform in public.We really enjoy playing at festivals.It’s always so much fun to entertain a crowd and see them singing along.

Mersi Stone:We think about doing our best and working hard and bringing a smile to the crowds face.

Mersi Stone:We handle mistakes and then we’ll talk about them after.We are also wanting to better ourselves and improve.When we mess up during a performance,we always just keep pushing through,most of the time the audience wouldn’t even know we messed up.

Country Music Explosion:Do you get nervous before a performance or a competition?

Mersi Stone:We both still get butterflies when we perform,but once we hit the stage,our nerves turns into a positive energy.

Country Music Explosion:What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?

Mersi Stone:Work through your nerves.Even though it’s scary,push through it.Once you get off that stage,you’ll wanna get right back on.

Mersi Stone:We practice everyday for at least an hour. It depends on what kind of event we are preparing for.

Mersi Stone:We normally practice our set list and discuss what we are going to do on stage.

Mersi Stone:Sometimes it’s hard to make time for other obligations, but we’ve learned that when you really want to do something you’ll make it happen especially for your friends and family.

Mersi Stone:When ever we get a good idea,we try to sit down right away and write.

Mersi Stone:As of right now,we are just writing from the heart.We don’t particularity follow any criteria.Of course we stick with a rhyme scheme,but we try to write what’s coming from the heart.

Mersi Stone:Our parents helped us come up with that name by mixing cities together that had meaning to our family.

Mersi Stone:We are dog lovers.We have grown up with Siberian Huskies our entire lives.All of our huskies are named after the country Tasmania.So one day,my parents were looking up some cities in Tasmania and decided to put two together.We ended up changing the spelling of “Mercy” to “Mersi” to make it match our names a little better since both Kori and Kels’s names end in “I”.

Mersi Stone:Our rehearsals consist of us and our band going over our set list for that specific show we are rehearsing for.

Mersi Stone:We came together 2 years ago to form the Duo Mersi Stone.We had sang together growing up and a lot of people gravitated towards our voices when we would sing together.So we thought,“why not.Lets give the fans what they want”. The rest is history.
