Country Music Explosion:Thanks for doing this interview,Let's first start off by giving us a little background of your life,then we can proceed to the rest of the interview.

Wesley Sprangler:I was always a shy child in school. I did well in studies and had a few close friends,none of which played instruments or were song writers. My hobbies up until high school were playing guitar (but not often) , art (I loved to draw and paint) and exploring (I live on a 7 acre wooded lot with my family and we were always in the woods playing it seemed. In 9th grade I met and became best friends with Brian Feldmeier who played drums. We shortly after began performing on on instruments at his home and years later formed our first band! I have performed with him several times in a few different bands over the years and am still friends to this day!
====================================================

Country Music Explosion:When did you start writing about music—and what or who were your early passions and influences?

Wesley Sprangler:I started writing music shortly after forming my first band after graduating high school. Most were heavy metal songs with comical themes. I stated writing more serious songs a few years into performing out as a band. My early passions were relationships and having fun with my friends, so most of the songs were based on events shared with friends and women I dated.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:What are your main impulses to write music?

Wesley Spangler:Most all songs I write are based on real life events and people I've met. I've had a lot of adventures and emotional events with people I know I my life and it makes for plenty songs to write!
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:What do you personally consider to be the incisive moments and pieces in your songwriting and/or career?

Wesley Spangler:My life events and relationships are always key to my songwriting. Taking the pieces and putting them together in song form is such a rush!
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:How would you describe and rate the music scene of the city/state you are currently living in and how important is it in terms of what you're actually writing about?

Wesley Spangler:My recent move from Maryland to Nashville takes me from my home state (Maryland) which is a great place for music and songwriters based on the diverse music scene and inspirational locations ,such as , Annapolis and Baltimore, to my new home ,Nashville, which needs no introduction as being a mecca for country music artists and songwriters in general. Such energy in this town!! The move also gives me more adventures to write about!
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:When it comes to song writing, what are your criteria for quality? What are currently your main challenges and ambitions as a writer?

Wesley Spangler:The criteria for my songs is based on relating to my audience, being concise in my writing and being current based on events. Some hold a nostalgic value also. I am like so many, still looking for "that hit song", yet holding to my own life's story to do so.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:What do you usually start with when working on a new Music?

Wesley Spangler:When it comes to new music it's 50/50 between a melody first, lyrics to fit and a chorus or title , then music to fit.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:Tell us a bit about the selection process for deciding on what to write about, please. What sources will you draw from for research purposes and how much time goes into research, information gathering and fact-checking in general?

Wesley Spangler:The selection process is simply what event in my life or person is currently on my mind. Lol! Pretty simple. I an experimenting with writing about situations I haven't personally experienced, so we shall see where that goes.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:How do you see the role of a song writer in the creative process? Should it amplify public taste, distinguish the good from the bad, inform, promote artists, or, “illuminate, educate and entertain” fans? Do you feel that, as part of your work, music needs to be explained or should it retain its “inexplicable nature”?

Wesley Spangler:I think music should move the audience by drawing on relatable subject matter and/or experiences and event belief some times. I also think music needs no more explanation than the song conveys.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:In which way does writing and reading about music change the way it is perceived by the public?

Wesley Spangler:It is too specific to the person writing or reading for me to try to put myself in their place to know how it's perceived.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:Whom do you feel your obligation is to other artists and the fans,not writing for a publication ? In how much do you feel is songwriting restricted by external factors?

Wesley Spangler:I don't feel anyone has an obligation when it comes to music. I feel it's an expression. If others can relate or enjoy it, the better. A songwriter is only restricted by his or her imagination. You can also tell a story no matter what. It's just a matter of how well you do it.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:song writing have changed considerably over the past century. What, do you feel, could – or should - be new forms and formats for song writing?

Wesley Spangler:A new form of songwriting could be clip writing. Like the video clips people post a lot of now days , a song based on lyric "clips" may become a new thing. ....If you can relate to what I am trying to say. I don't know what is to come, but music will always be around.
====================================================
Country Music Explosion:Music-sharing sites and blogs as well as a flood of releases in general are presenting both listeners and artists with challenging questions. What's your view on the value of music today?
